After they have lost out maximum moisture content, the leaves are rolled manually or with the help of machines. This is done by

what-to-look-for-when-buying-a-sunscreen

Navigating the sunscreen aisle can be confusing. For clarity, Health Canada has created labelling standards for sunscreens sold in our country. Here's your guide to the new standards

Now, before any products hit store shelves, they must include specific labelling information about SPF and more. Here are the highlights:

#1 The ground rules

All sunscreen products must state the following:
• Apply liberally/generously (and evenly) 15 minutes before sun exposure.
• Reapply at least every two hours.
• For use on children less than six months of age, consult a healthcare practitioner.

#2 Labelling

All sunscreen products must say they help prevent sunburn and list the amount of sun protection factor (SPF).  Products containing combination of UVA and UVB ingredients may say “broad spectrum” on their labels, but a UVA symbol is not required.

3 best foods to boost your sex drive

Watermelon

This juicy red fruit could be the new sexual star. While watermelon is 92 percent water, the remaining eight percent contains the phytonutrient citrulline, which converts to arginine, an amino acid that relaxes blood vessels, according to 2008 research from Texas A&M University’s department of horticultural sciences. Although not as organ-specific as drugs that treat men’s erectile dysfunction, watermelon may help improve blood flow to erectile tissue (present in the female clit¬oral area as well as the male penis), increasing arousal. Scientists at the university’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center are now working on increasing the fruit’s citrulline content.

How to make vacation sex last

Q: Our summer holidays were great; my husband and I camped, played golf and had lots of sex. Now that we are once again in the daily grind of work responsibilities, I’m afraid we will return to our habit of making love only every couple of weeks. How can we stay connected?

It sounds like you experienced the vacation fling phenomenon: couples needing to get away in order to get it on. The ingredients are simple. Take away work demands, interrupt daily routines, create time and space, and have fun exploring new things. Mix these all together and, voilà, you get two relaxed, happy people who want to play. And making love should be play, not work.

But now it’s back to the workweek and all the hustle and bustle that comes with living in the “real” world. Many couples store their summer sex life alongside their tent, fishing poles and golf clubs, where lovin’ takes a back seat until the next road trip. Don’t let that happen. You need a new fall hobby, one that doesn’t involve hiking boots or scrapbooks. And that hobby is your love life.

Think about it. What are the features of a hobby? Well, it’s something we prioritize, study

Are your sexual fantasies healthy?

Welcome to the world of sexual fantasy. Yes, it is normal to fantasize; almost all women do. If descriptions of “kinky fun” and domination (where you obey your lover’s commands) turned women off,  Fifty Shades wouldn’t be the international bestseller that it is.(And if it was a book club that got you reading this particular novel, your partner will likely be thrilled that you joined it.) So relax, you’re not weird. Fantasizing can enhance sexual arousal and orgasm whether you are alone or with your partner. And it doesn’t mean you are unhappy with your actual sex life—it is simply another healthy aspect of the spectrum of sexual pleasure.

So what do most women fantasize about? Well…having sex! With one person or two, with strangers or people they know, in different positions (hello, Kama Sutra) or in different locations (hello, sex on

Is it normal not to orgasm from intercourse?

Q. I rarely have an orgasm during intercourse, though I can have one on my own. My husband wants us to have mutual orgasms and I feel like I am letting him down. Am I normal?
A. In a word, yes. Research indicates that up to 80 percent of women cannot reach orgasm through intercourse (or do so only occasionally). That means fewer than a quarter of women climax through thrusting alone—no matter how big his penis is, no matter how long he lasts, and no matter how you feel about him. The clitoris, not the vagina, is the female sex organ; that is where the majority of nerve endings that lead to orgasm are found. When you touch yourself, you know how hard or soft, and how slow or fast, to do it to reach orgasm. In most sexual positions, however, the penis doesn’t provide enough direct or indirect stimulation on the clitoris to lead to orgasm.

Does that mean a woman cannot be turned on by intercourse alone? Of course not. You may love making love and find it very pleasurable.

Relationship advice: Why does my husband only touch me when he wants sex?

Question: My husband seems to touch me only when he wants sex. I’d love to cuddle more, but how can I make him understand that when I hug him it doesn’t mean I want to run to the bedroom and have sex?
My first question is, how often do you have sex? If getting naked is as rare as a sighting of Ogopogo, your sweetie has just cause for hoping that touchy equals feely. Couples often bring this issue to my therapy couch, and the man points out that touch feels good–and infrequent sex can mean that a simple touch really turns him on. He interprets the delicious feelings as a prelude to more. He then reverts to his 18-year-old self, desperate to get to second base before you change your mind. You pull away, he feels he has struck out and then he pulls away altogether, leaving you both a little hurt and wary. Touch then becomes a loaded issue, and pretty soon you are patting the dog more than each other.

If your sex life is healthy and frequent, the issue is slightly different.
Some men (and women) need to learn how to be comfortable with non-sexual contact. Touch is vulnerable and intimate. A soft, slow embrace with eye contact can be more emotionally intense for him than hot sex.

Relationship advice: The benefits of morning sex

With busy schedules, it's easy for romance to fall to the bottom of your to-do list. Luckily, there's a way it doesn't have to

Q: I’m married with kids, and have a hectic career. By bedtime, I’m too tired for sex; last month, my husband and I didn’t make love once. What can I do?

A: I have two words for you: morning sex. Men love this phrase, while women, well, you probably rolled your eyes on reading that, didn’t you? Fair enough. After all, he wakes up physiologically ready for love–healthy men often have morning erections–but healthy women need more time to warm up. Truthfully, when you open your eyes, is nookie the first thing on your mind? You are more likely to be worrying about things like an upcoming client meeting or figuring out what lunch to pack for your six-year-old. So when hubby makes a sexy move, you wriggle out of his arms and head for the shower.

6 things you should never do on Facebook

Do you know the unspoken rules of social media interaction? We asked the expert for their best strategies for managing attention seekers and awkward oversharers on Facebook.

Facebook is an easy way to stay in touch with the old high school gang, share funny photos from your family vacation and wish your wide circle of friends a happy birthday without springing for a stamp. But there’s a downside, too: When you’re sitting behind a computer screen, it’s easy to mishandle conversations on social media and forget that you’re talking to a huge audience.

“People are a lot bolder on Facebook than they are in real life,” says Wendy Mencel, director of the Canadian School of Protocol and Etiquette. “There is a disconnect between what they’re writing and how they’re coming across, and they forget that their words can offend people. Social media opens us up to more scrutiny, and we have to be conscious of what message we’re projecting to the world.”

Follow our expert tips to avert your own Facebook faux pas and improve your social media encounters.

My Encounter With a Sexual Predator

With all the warnings I've given my daughters about watching out for sexual predators—online, on campus or elsewhere—I never thought I would encounter one in the dressing room of a discount retailer. But it happened.  Yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m.
I went to buy a wedding gift and, while at the store, decided to try on some new lingerie for the weekend trip to the wedding. As I came out of the dressing room, I almost ran into a man bent over in the aisle between my dressing room and the one across from me.
At first I thought he was a store employee. He was dressed in khakis and a polo shirt, very similar to the store uniform. But when I paused, he quickly pressed a button on the smartphone he was holding screen-up under the dressing room door. He then pocketed the phone and walked briskly out of the dressing room.

The woman in the dressing room started screaming that she'd been photographed. I ran out shouting to the nearest clerk that the man walking ahead of me was a sexual predator and had just photographed a woman trying on a bathing suit. The clerk called a nearby male clerk, who attempted to follow the man I was pointing at.

Sex Doesn't Have to End With Menopause

If you've been through menopause, then you might say that your sex life has never been better. After all, the pregnancy worries are gone and so are the children. You can be spontaneous! Have sex in any room of the house!
You're no longer running your kids to endless activities, so you have more energy at the end of the day. You're relaxed and comfortable with who you are and what you want.
Right?
Hold up. For every woman in the throes of postmenopausal sexual bliss, there's a woman (or two or three) out there who quivers at the mere mention of sex. Or, she may have the desire—but not the ability. Sexual dysfunction affects millions of women in the United States.
Face it, a woman's sex drive is quite complex. Aside from the emotional aspects, there are physical changes during menopause that can, well, complicate things.
Take those extra pounds and the altered body shape that come with them (hello, belly fat!). A woman may feel uncomfortable or self-conscious about her body—and may barely recognize it as her own.
Poor self-image aside, if you're carrying extra weight, physical problems like reduced energy or reduced mobility may interfere with your sexual function.
And what of those momentous hormonal changes that go hand-in-hand with menopause? While your body is busy ushering your estrogen out, it's welcoming in some pretty significant vaginal changes, like dryness and thinning of its lining (otherwise known as vaginal atrophy). Less estrogen equals less vaginal lubrication, leading to a less elastic vagina. What ensues? Pain, burning, tightness or soreness. In fact, according to the North

Keeping Passion in Your Relationship

You know, I'm so glad we're talking today about the issue of sexuality. But, I want to expand the discussion somewhat from just sexuality, to sexuality, passion and intimacy. While the three are different, they are all connected.
Just consider: Can't holding hands be as intimate as intercourse? Doesn't the fact your partner did the laundry, folded it and put it away (without being asked!) make you want him as much as candles and flowers? Can't the passion you feel sharing your child's first word with your partner, or buying your first house together, be just as vital as the passion you experience during a marathon lovemaking session?
I submit that it is. That's why it's important to bring passion and intimacy into the everyday corners of your life instead of saving them for the bedroom, vacations or romantic outings.

Start Enjoying Sex Again

Even if every part of your body works perfectly, you still might not be terribly interested in sex or even simply bored with your sex life. Maybe you've become tired of the routine nature of sex in a long-term relationship; maybe you want sex but your partner doesn't; maybe you both want sex.
Don't focus on what he or she does or doesn't do. Try focusing on your own sensations of pleasure. Explain to your partner what areas are pleasurable and which are not and how you like to be touched. Then listen to him or her share his or her own wants and needs. Ideally, the two of you will be able to develop a plan to reignite the passion. Some suggestions to help you to start enjoying sex again:
  • Schedule sex. It might sound boring, but it ensures that sex doesn't get pushed to the bottom of the list. Plus, there's nothing wrong with a little planning. You might even find it gets you in the mood!

Your Sexuality at Midlife

How's your sex life? If you answered "great," then congratulations are in order. Keep doing what you're doing. But if you answered "not so great," then this article is for you.
Although women talk about it a great deal, there's no real evidence that women's sexual desire decreases in the years just before and after menopause. In fact, one of the largest surveys of women and their sexual desire found very similar rates of low sexual desire among premenopausal and postmenopausal women (24 and 29 percent, respectively).
Having said that, however, it is important to acknowledge the effects changinghormone levels can have on a woman's sexual desire and pleasure. For instance, as estrogen levels drop before and after menopause, you may find intercourse more painful. That's because estrogen is important to maintaining the flexibility and moistness of the vagina. So if you've been avoiding sex because it hurts, talk to your health care professional as soon as possible.

Top Sex Positions for Every Type of Orgasm

It's no secret that having sex is good for your overall health. It can boost your mood, strengthen your immune system, help relieve stress, ease aches and pains, burn calories and more. But while plenty of women are doing themselves a world of good by having safe, regular sex, not all of them are reaching climax.
A recent study by researchers at the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Leeds found that the majority of women—around 80 percent—admitted to faking an orgasm. It might be to please their partners; speed up sex because of discomfort, time limitations or boredom; or other

What's REALLY Causing Your Low Sex Drive?

It's the end of a long day and your partner wants to have sex. You're so not into it and cite sheer exhaustion as your libido-squashing culprit. But truth be told, many women aren't always as primed for sex as they'd like to be. In fact, for up to one-third of adult women, low sexual desire is a chronic problem that interferes with their quality of life. Despite how common it is, this condition—known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)—is not well-known or understood.

Getting In the Mood for Sex

You've worked all day, come home to cranky kids, a rambunctious puppy, six loads of laundry, one dinner plus cleanup and two rounds of homework. Finally, the kids are in bed, the kitchen is clean and the dog is snoring. That's when your husband reaches over and strokes your cheek, staring into your eyes with that expression you know so well.
He wants to have sex. But all you want is a glass of Chardonnay and a good book followed by a deep dive into sleep.

Sex and Your Teen

Today, nearly 70 percent of all high school seniors engage in sexual intercourse before graduating, one in eight contracts a sexually transmitted disease (STD) each year and more than 80 percent of all STD cases occur among those under 29.

And, an estimated one in five adolescent girls has an STD and doesn't know it. If you're a parent - even if your child is still in diapers - I bet you're white-knuckled with fear right about now. Don't be.
The good news on the youth and STD front is that regardless of what you might think, parents still play a critical role in their adolescent's behavior, both in terms of the behavior you model yourself, and in terms of the communication between you and your teen. And, believe it or not, your kids themselves have said in surveys that they're in need of information to prevent pregnancy and disease. Unfortunately, the U.S. falls far behind other countries in providing

When Sex Hurts

Between 25 and 45 percent of postmenopausal women find sex painful, a condition called dyspareunia.
While there are many causes, the most common reason for dyspareunia—painful sex—in women over 50 is vulvovaginal atrophy, a fancy name for a vulva and vagina that no longer have the beneficial effects from estrogen that they did prior to menopause.
As discussed earlier, lower estrogen levels significantly affect your vagina, impacting its ability to secrete lubricant, to expand and contract and to grow new cells. Over time, blood flow diminishes, and the vagina and vulva can atrophy, or shrink as cells die off and aren't replaced.
The result? Soreness, burning after sex, pain during intercourse and, sometimes, post-sex bleeding.
The good news is that vuvlovaginal atrophy is very treatable. One of the best treatments doesn't involve medicine! Turns out that the more often you have sex, the less likely you are to develop atrophy or, at the very least, a serious case of it. That's because sex increases blood flow to the genitals, keeping them healthy.
Other treatments include:
Estrogen. As you might expect, if lack of estrogen is behind vulvovaginal atrophy, then giving back estrogen should help. Both systemic estrogens (oral pills and patches) and local estrogens (creams, rings and tablets applied to the vulva and/or vagina) work. However, most major medical

6 Food for Healthy Sleep – Eat Good & Sleep Tight

After day-long hectic work we all are very likely to have a sound sleep. However, in reality everybody is not quite fortunate enough to enjoy such sweet dreams. Most of us usually struggle to get a good sleep. Living in this fast paced society does not allow us to focus on our diet properly, however, to enjoy a nice sleep our regular diet should not be ignored.

Following is a small list of some healthy food options, which can provide you with a good-night sleep:
                                                               Cherries

Cherries are also quite famous as a sleep regulator because of its ability to manipulate your body clock. It’s a rich source of melatonin, which is known as a hormone manufactured by the pineal gland in your brain.

Sex after Breast Surgery

If you've just learned that you have breast cancer, your sex life may be the last thing on your mind. But as you move through surgery and treatment, it is definitely worth thinking about how you can maintain and preserve your sexuality. That's because sex is so closely tied to intimacy. Having cancer can be lonely enough; you need the touching and loving that comes from intimacy now more than ever. Plus, sexuality helps you maintain a sense of normalcy, health and vitality, all of which are so important when dealing with a serious illness.

Birth Control Pill

Effectiveness: 92 to 99.7 percent (effectiveness is near 100 percent if the pill is taken daily as directed; because many women do not use as directed, the pregnancy rate is 2-9 pregnancies per 100 women each year, and it may be slightly less effective if you’re overweight).

What is it? Most birth control pills contain synthetic hormones similar to estrogen and progesterone produced by your body. Pills containing both hormones are known as combination pills; some pills only contain progestin and are known as the mini-pill (that option is described separately). Birth control pills typically come in packs with a month’s supply, and you take one pill daily at about the same time of day. There are many types available, containing various types, amounts and combinations of hormones. Birth control pills are often referred to as “the pill” or oral contraception.

How does it work? Birth control pills release synthetic estrogen and progestin. These hormones keep you from releasing eggs so pregnancy cannot occur. The hormones also thicken your cervical mucus, blocking the sperm from reaching the egg, and affect the lining of the uterus, both of which may help prevent pregnancy

Spice It Up: 5 Ways to Increase Your Sex Drive Naturally

Many factors can negatively impact your sex drive, from aging, to illness, to stress. It's perfectly normal to feel less-than-excited about sex sometimes: Research has shown that about 43 percent of American women and 31 percent of American men have experienced sexual dysfunction.

Getting back in the mood is easier than you think, and you don't have to resort to drugs. Here are five natural ways to boost your sex drive and get down to business.

1. Add aphrodisiacs to your diet

There isn't a lot of scientific evidence that aphrodisiac foods like oysters, figs, chocolate and hot peppers actually work to increase your

libido, but there's certainly no harm in trying them. While they may not have biological effects, they can have psychological effects. Plus, the nutrients found in many of the foods are good for you and can help with any physical pursuits, including sex.

Erogenous Zones You Might Be Neglecting

When it comes to what happens between the sheets (or any place you have sex), you want to put your best foot forward, and, while you're at it, you want it to rock your world. But how realistic is it to expect to hit an out-of-the-ballpark home run each time?

Face it, sex can become humdrum and uncreative and may even come to a screeching halt. Here's a wake-up call: You have forgotten and neglected body parts lying in wait, ready to be noticed.

"Neglect is born out of lack of knowledge and awareness," says Sheryl Kingsberg, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and one of HealthyWomen's medical experts. "Women and men have a fairly narrow view of what parts of their body are tied to arousal and sensual pleasure," adds Kingsberg, who is also a professor in the Departments of Reproductive Biology and Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

You’ve Been Slicing a Banana WRONG

This simple trick will have you slicing your banana before you peel it.

Get ready to have your banana-loving mind blown: You can slice a banana without a knife and without even peeling it!

It's a pretty cool technique, courtesy of DaveHax. Basically, you push a needle into the banana through the peel and move it from side to side so that it makes one clean slice. Do that all the way down the length of the banana and then, when you peel it, it’s already in handy bite-sized segments. Who would have thought?
As the video points out, it makes for a pretty cool party trick, but what really gets us psyched is that it’s an easy way to pre-slice your bananas when packing a meal or snack. No mess or banana mush all over your hands!

Think that was nifty? You’ll also want to check out the best way to cut mangos and the incredibly easy way to cut a bunch of grapes in half in mere seconds.

Health Tips for Heart, Mind and Body

If you only do 5 things to boost health, what should you do?

 WebMD Archive

Unhealthy lifestyle. It's a common contributor of our biggest health problems: stroke, heart disease, diabetes, cancer. What do the nation's top physicians recommend to keep your heart, mind, and body in optimally good health?

For the secrets to a long healthy life, WebMD turned to Richard A. Lange, MD, chief of cardiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His advice:

1. Daily exercise. You brush your teeth every day; exercise is equally important for your daily routine. Turn off the TV or computer, and get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.

To work your heart, it's got to be aerobic exercise. You've got lots of options: walking, jogging, biking, rowing machine, elliptical machine, swimming. But don't feel like you have to be an athlete. Walking is great exercise. Get 10 minutes here and there during the day. It all counts.
Start with something simple, like parking in the far corner of the parking lot -- so you get those extra steps to the door. Take the stairs one or two flights instead of the elevator. If you take public transportation, get off one stop early and walk the rest. Get out at lunch to walk. Or walk with your significant other or your spouse after work. You'll get a bonus -- relaxation and stress reduction.

2. Healthy diet.
Quit eating junk food and high-fat fast food. Your heart, brain, and overall health are harmed by foods high in saturated fats, salt, and cholesterol. There's no getting around it. You've got to replace them with healthy foods: lots of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, olive oil -- what we call the Mediterranean diet. Eat like an Italian, a Spaniard, a Greek! Enjoy!

Low Sexual Desire Is a Very Real Disorder for Many Women

authored by Elizabeth Battaglino, RN, CEO of HealthyWomen

Nationally, there is an important dialogue taking place regarding female sexual dysfunction (FSD) and whether it is a legitimate medical condition that requires treatment. HealthyWomen, based on the data that is currently available, believes that FSDs are real disorders that affect millions of women in the United States.

A recent HealthyWomen survey (supported by Palatin Technologies, makers of the investigational therapy bremelanotide), revealed that as many as 6 in 10 premenopausal women who are experiencing low desire are distressed by it. Additionally, some 40 percent of women polled blame themselves for their low desire. Clearly, more awareness and education are needed around this topic.

Low sexual desire—known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)—is the most common form of FSD. Some of the HSDD symptoms include: lack of sexual thoughts, lack of desire that cannot be attributed to any other medical or psychological problems. The key criteria of the disorder is that it causes personal distress.

Fighting Back Against Dry Skin

What's Causing Your Dry Skin?

Your skin is your body's first line of defense against the elements. When sun, wind, and cold leave skin dry and itchy, don't hide it under long pants and gloves. Replenish it!

To get the kind of smooth, sleek skin you'll want to show off, learn these eight top causes of, and fixes for, dry skin.

When the temperature drops, the humidity level plunges too. Dry air leaves skin parched. "Once the weather starts to change, I see patients coming in complaining of dry, itchy skin," says Linda Stein Gold, MD, clinical research director for the dermatology department at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital.
Turning up the thermostat doesn't help, either. Indoor heating strips even more moisture from the air -- and your skin.

Quick Fix: Dial Up the Humidity

Install a humidifier in your home to keep air moist. Set humidity at a constant 45% to 55%, and the temperature at a balmy 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Before you go outside in wintry weather, create your own moisture barrier. Protect your most sensitive parts -- lips, face, and hands -- with a scarf and gloves.

2. Steamy Showers
Setting the shower to steamy soothes your body, but it won't do your skin any favors. "I know it feels wonderful to stand in a really hot shower... but it can dry out the natural oils in our skin more quickly," Stein Gold says.
Standing under that hot spray long enough to belt out your favorite tune is also a no-no. The longer you linger in the shower, the more you dry out your skin.

Quick Fix: Cleanse Coolly and Quickly
Dial down the shower temperature to lukewarm, and keep showers short. Five minutes is enough to get clean without over-drying. Save the singing for your car.

3. Moisture-Robbing Soaps
Don't put just any bar of soap into your shower dish -- they're not all the same. Wash with a harsh soap and you'll send your skin's natural moisture barrier straight down the drain.

HealthDay News

THURSDAY, April 10, 2014 (HealthDay News) -- "Was it good for you, too?" can be such a loaded question. Now a new study says you can't fool your sex partner by faking satisfaction.

The study also found that women and men are equally able to determine their partners' levels of sexual satisfaction.

The Canadian study included 84 couples whose members were individually asked about their levels of sexual satisfaction, sexual communication, ability to recognize emotions and relationship satisfaction.

"We found that, on average, both men and women have fairly accurate and unbiased perceptions of their partners' sexual satisfaction," lead author Erin Fallis, of the University of Waterloo, said in a university news release.
